This area along West Running Brook is thought to be the original location of the first Scotch-Irish settlement in Derry, originally called “Nutfield.” The Grinnell Trail, which is open to the public, starts on Humphrey Road and goes south through open fields. The trail crosses West Running Brook and Island Pond Road. The trail then goes south from Island Pond Road and connects to the Robert Frost Farm nature trail.
